A Marine's Story

image of Don Andersen, wife and daughters

Life insurance wasn't Don Andersen's favorite subject. The former Marine felt most at home spending time with his wife, Barbara, at their daughters' many athletic activities, playing tennis or running his successful Atlanta-based hydraulics business.

But as the family's primary breadwinner, he did understand the need to protect his wife and children financially.  Working with the next-door neighbor and agent, Dan Kirk, CLU, CHFC, Don purchased a term policy that would cover his income, and soon after, an additional policy to cover a loan he was using to expand his business.

Nine years later, Don traveled to the Kentucky Derby with his brother and three friends.  On the way home, he suffered a fatal heart attack.

Knowing how much the Marines had meant to her husband, Barbara called Dan, a former Marine himself, with a special request.  She wanted him to get a Marine to play "Taps" at Don's funeral.  Two days later, a U.S. Marine in his dress blues stood at attention, bugle in hand, as the funeral procession entered the cemetery.

But Dan's work had just begun.  He made sure the life insurance claim was paid promptly, allowing Barbara to pay off Don's business loan and take charge of the business, which continues to thrive.

Thanks largely to the insurance money, Barbara is financially secure and able to provide her daughters with the life she and Don always dreamed they would have.

Will your family be provided for like Don Andersen's if something should happen to you?
