Family SGLI Spousal Premiums Decreased July 1, 2010

Effective July 1, 2010, VA reduced Family SGLI monthly premium rates for all covered spouses.  This is the third time VA has reduced premium rates since the FSGLI program began in 2001.  Members whose spouses are covered under the program will see a average 8 percent decrease in premiums deducted from their pay, based on the age of their spouse.

The new rates reflect better than expected claims experience in the Family SGLI program.  This reduction ensures Family SGLI remains in a highly competitive position compared to commercial insurers, even at their lower, non-smoker rates.

FSGLI coverage is available in increments of $10,000.  The old and new monthly premium rates per $10,000 of insurance are shown in the table below.  In the last column, the monthly premium rates for the maximum coverage of $100,000 are provided.
